The Marine Energy Transition Forum has built a strong reputation as an industry platform which encourages and fosters open, honest and informed discussion about the hard questions facing shipping, ports and fuel and technology providers as they decide on and build their decarbonisation strategies.
This year’s edition is well-timed, coming just ahead of the much-anticipated meeting of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 85). Whether the meeting breaks the deadlock over the IMO’s Net Zero Framework or the hiatus on its adoption continues, the impact of the outcome of this crucial meeting on shipping’s decarbonisation timelines cannot be underestimated.
The headline theme for this year’s METF is ‘Reframing the maritime decarbonisation roadmap: addressing fuel, technology and infrastructure bottlenecks’, and the event will aim to identify the chokepoints in global maritime decarbonisation and some of the solutions and strategies to overcome them.
METF 26 will look at the decarbonisation ‘learning curve’ to date and discuss what is going well and where industry and policymakers could do better.
