In one month Hong Kong will host the 6th Sustainable Ocean Summit

Organized by the World Ocean Council (WOC), the Sustainable Ocean Summit is the only international ocean business event to provide a yearly review of status and trends in ocean economic activity. Since 2010, this three-day conference is where the global Ocean Business Community meets to advance action on ocean sustainable development and the Blue Economy. This year it will be held on 14-16 November in Hong Kong, a global maritime center for Asian ocean industries, around the theme: “Ocean Sustainable Development – Connecting Asia and the World”.

Detailed Program Revealed

Over three days, SOS 2018 attendees will explore a range of topics including Asian Ports and Sustainable Development, Shipbuilding for Sustainability, Women in Ocean Industries, Ocean and Climate, Ocean Investment Platform, Asian Shipping and more through plenaries, workshops and parallel sessions.

3 Reasons to Attend the SOS 2018 in Hong Kong

• Hong Kong has a long history of serving as a strategic trading port between the East and the West, and serves as an international maritime centre characterised by a vibrant maritime services cluster. According to the International Shipping Centre Development Index (ISCD) 2018, published by the Baltic Exchange and Chinese news agency Xinhua, Hong Kong represents the second leading maritime centre in the world.

• The SOS 2018 will be a great opportunity to meet high-level representatives from all over the world and from all sectors in the Ocean Business Community, including shipping, oil & gas, fisheries, aquaculture, offshore renewables, tourism, seabed mining, marine technology, law, finance, insurance etc. – as well as ocean stakeholders from the government, inter-governmental, science and environment communities.

• Conservation and preservation of the Ocean are at the heart of the SOS because it brings on board the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG14: conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources. This is particularly so in 2018, known as the International Year of the Reef, which recognizes that coral reefs are on the front-line of climate change.
